Memphis is the birthplace of rock.  And the best rock music, even music as hard as One Less Reason’s unique brand of literate, heartfelt hard rock, comes from the soul.  That soul, as songwriter and front man Cris Brown will tell you, is the source of One Less Reason’s The Memories Uninvited. The band’s sixth album offers a cross-section of the talents that always made One Less Reason a unique contender among hard rock acts, while revealing a newer, more contemplative vein in Brown’s songwriting. Brown and One Less Reason have earned that happiness through a career defined by hustle and hard work.  A string of acclaimed albums and tour pairings with acts like Seether and Fuel built such solid word-of-mouth that the band’s independently-released 2010 album Faces & Four Letter Words debuted at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.  Entirely without label backing, the band exceeded digital sales of 400,000 for that record, whose leadoff single, “Faces,” was featured in promo spots for CSI: Miami’s 2011 premiere. The Memories Uninvited is the product of two years of work, during which time Brown also bought the former Kiva Recording Studio and House of Blues Studio on Rayner St. in Memphis—an address that’s now home to Tattooed Millionaire, the label Brown founded with John Falls in 2014.  The Memories Uninvited, then, finds One Less Reason switching up its approach across a dozen cuts that blend genres, styles, and tones.  What gives the album its consistency, beyond the articulate cry of Cris Brown’s voice, is the combination of muscle and tenderness in the music.  And it’s this element—the earned anger, the softness of heart—that places the album beyond the easy confines of the hard rock genre.

When done honestly, rock ‘n’ roll can stick with you for a lifetime. It rides shotgun for the whole way, soundtracking those big moments and memories. Once you hear a Citizen Zero song, you remember it. The Detroit rock outfit—Josh LeMay [vocals], Sammy Boller [lead guitar], John Dudley [drums], and Sam Collins [bass]—deliver arena-size anthems fueled by intricate musicianship on their full-length debut album, State of Mind [Wind-up Records]. Striking a balance between edgy grunge attitude a la Stone Temple Pilots and bluesy alternative expanse reminiscent of Kings of Leon, their knack for a hook immediately resonated with a growing national fan base. The band recently arrived with their debut single, "Go (Let Me Save You)" exclusively premiering on  Guitar World. The song builds from an eerie melody into an overpowering refrain punctuated by an incendiary guitar lead and hypnotic vocal. “It’s actually the first song Sammy and I wrote together,” Josh remembers. “It happened right after the Sandy Hook tragedy. I was watching the news, and I couldn’t believe how the cameramen were consciously filming crying parents. It was so wrong. Having gone through tragedy, it made me really angry. I had to say something.” Following their single debut, the band has spent the summer on the road, playing major festivals like Rock on the Range and supporting acts like P.O.D. Today, the band are excited to announce another string of US tour dates, kicking off on the East Coast in Asbury Park, the tour takes the boys through New York City and across to Indianapolis, ending in Fresno, California. Joining them on the tour are fellow rockers  The Wans and The Black Moods. Their new record, State of Mind was released on August 12 via Wind-up Records. For more information, visit wearecitizenzero.com

Salt Lake City's The New Low features former members of Hearts & Hands, but know this, The New Low is not a new iteration nor is it a renaming and/or rebranding effort. The New Low is entirely, well, new. The alt metal band is its own unique entity. Three members —Fletcher Howell [bass/vocals], Garrett Garfield [vocals], and Chris Kim [guitars]— have been working together since late 2013 and they are now joined by Hiram Hernandez [guitars] and Corey Beaver [drums]. Their chemistry is solidified, as is their mutual respect for one another. You can hear it in the results, which is their earnest but electrifying debut album Continuance, which was self-produced and recorded in a basement. In a current, oversaturated heavy music scene full of copycat bands hellbent to win the race to the bottom, The New Low are rising to the top and remaining buoyant, thanks to their crackling-with-intensity, artistic-meets-alternative metal style. Continuance invites the listener to ride sidecar on a sonic journey marked by twists, turns, and surprises throughout. The New Low certainly aren't afraid to experiment and play with dynamics, to frontload their songs with molten riffs, or to get in touch with their emotional side. Thematically, Continuance reminds us that it's not the fact that we fall, but how we get up that defines our character. Ultimately, Continuance is an album about forward progress and allowing your failures shape to you into something better, stronger, and improved. Just like The New Low itself. There’s an old saying in the music community: an artist gets their whole career to write a debut album but just a few months to write the follow-up. 3 PILL MORNING defies this cliché. There’s no “slump” in their sophomore set. The cathartic vindication in expression drawn from shared experience and real life struggle shines through in 3PM’s music even more brightly than before, taking shape in loud, passionate celebration. Never Look Back is a blistering, diverse, dynamic and altogether reinvigorating powerhouse of soaring melodic hard rock from the depths of each band member’s soul. As the album title suggests, the record pushes forward, with eyes on the prize, while drawing strength and resilience from all of the highs and lows that have come before. There’s no clear cut distinction between what 3 PILL MORNING does in the studio, on the stage and in their every day lives. All of their songs are the result of their lifelong experiences, many written on the road. It’s all one cohesive statement. It’s all 3PM. The four men of the steadfast, hard working, blue-collar hard rock band put their music where their hearts are, squeezing every drop of emotion they can summon into each and every note. This is the kind of music that quickens the pulse, mobilizes adrenaline and strikes an emotional chord in the same vein as the anthemic, passionate hard rock, active rock and screamo of platinum trailblazers like The Used, Papa Roach and Breaking Benjamin. A 3PM show has much in common with the sweaty communal experience of a gig featuring Pop Evil, 10 Years, or Theory Of A Deadman, with a unique flavor of their own. You hear it again and again.  When one door closes, another one opens. However, it’s true - especially in the case of Sick Puppies. In the Fall of 2014, Emma Anzai [bass, vocals] and Mark Goodwin [drums] parted ways with their guitarist and vocalist. Weathering and persevering through this potentially life-changing event, the gold-selling, chart-topping Los Angeles-based and Australian-bred hard rock outfit knew one thing. They were going to make more music as Sick Puppies. “There was no question” affirms Emma. “We had no doubt that we wanted to continue. Mark and I got together and basically said, ‘first and foremost, we love music. We love this band and our fans, and we have put so much into it, and we are not done and want to take it further.’ In order to do that, we needed to find the right member.” Instead, the “right member” found them. With stints in several bands under his belt, Texas-born singer and guitarist Bryan Scott reached out to Emma via Facebook within days of the announcement. He sent her a video of himself performing, and she swiftly replied. “Both Mark and I knew he was the guy right away - he was cool and he sounded great. It was a natural progression. We were totally on to something” said Emma. “Something just overwhelmed me,” admits Bryan. “I had a feeling that I needed to reach out. They needed a singer and guitarist and that’s what I am. I had always loved their music and as soon as I saw the post, I went home and immediately sent Emma a message. We clicked right off the bat. Music is in their blood - it’s who they are. They live and breathe it every day. I’m the same way.” On May 20th, Sick Puppies will be releasing their new album Fury! For more information, visit sickpuppies.com

Inspiration completes a circle throughout time. When the new generation understands the traditions of the forefathers, it can properly ascend. However, this ritual doesn’t happen overnight. Time, patience, and endless work remain prerequisites—especially in music. Trivium—Matt Heafy [vocals, guitar], Corey Beaulieu [guitar] and Paolo Gregoletto [bass]—actually began building the blueprint for their seventh full-length album, Silence in the Snow [Roadrunner Records], back in 2007. They spent the next eight years diligently progressing and evolving, eventually becoming equipped with the wisdom to fully architect this body of work in 2015. Trivium laid the foundation to reach this point with 2005’s Ascendancy. Eventually, that seminal album would move over 500,000 copies worldwide. Throughout The Crusade [2006] and Shogun [2009], they would play alongside everybody from Black Sabbath to Iron Maiden and captivate crowds at Download Festival, OZZfest, and more. 2011’s In Waves marked their highest chart entry on the Billboard Top 200, landing at #13, hitting #1 on Hard Rock chart, and selling 22,000 units first-week. Vengeance Falls would also go Top 15 in 2013 as the group went on to play the main stage at 2014’s Mayhem Festival alongside Avenged Sevenfold and Korn. 2015 sees them co-headline with Tremonti, headline Bloodstock in Europe, and perform on the main stage at KNOTFEST. When it came time to write their second full-length album, Right to Rise [Razor & Tie], Wilson didn’t have to look far for inspiration. In fact, hometown Detroit gave the quintet—Jason Spencer, Chad Nicefield, Kyle Landry, Puhy, and James Lascu—its chief muse. Wilson has come a long way since their bombastic, brash, and ballsy 2013 full-length debut album, Full Blast Fuckery. They emerged on to the scene with a raucous, raw, and righteous rock sound that saw them become a live favorite, while sharing the stage with everybody from Black Label Society and Down to Five Finger Death Punch and Motörhead. Finishing up a touring whirlwind, the group decided to approach the creative process for Right To Rise from a new angle. Previously, Chad and Jason comprised the writing core, but they opened composition to the whole band, splitting sessions between Motor City and Atlanta with producer and writer Johnny Andrews (Halestorm, Three Days Grace, Sick Puppies). The band tapped into their primary influences—everything from Alice In Chains and Toadies to Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath. We embraced where we each came from. Throughout this record, you can almost smell the blood on the drumheads and the temperature of the room when the amps were running extra hot. Armed with a battering ram of riffs and swaggering grooves, songs like the title track capture that spirit, while tapping into a distinctly “live” energy, offering a tribute to their home and rock music. The journey of Right to Rise kicked off with a five-week European tour alongside Halestorm and Nothing More, setting the tone for the roller coaster to follow globally. Their live show continues to engage everybody from audiences to critics with Manchester Rocks claiming of the UK run, “They go out like they have something to prove. It is loud, it is sweaty, it is REAL, and f*ck it’s good!” For more information, visit wilsonpartyanimals.com
