There is nothing subtle about Texas. There is a reason why we use the term “Texas-sized” to describe anything in life that’s exaggeratedly large, from posteriors, to bong hits, to jugs of beer. This boldness, naturally, extends to the Lone Star’s musical exports, loud n’ proud legendary artists like ZZ Top, Pantera, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, among many others. Now, firmly in that cocksure lineage, is a mighty bluesy metal band from McAllen, Texas aptly named, Sons Of Texas. The young quintet’s debut, Baptized In The Rio Grande—produced by the iconic Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God, Crowbar, Chiodos, Hatebreed)—is a Texas-sized portion of power metal grooves, dazzling guitar solos, strip joint/tailgate sing-along choruses, and soulfully charred vocal melodies. Sons Of Texas was spawned in McAllen, Texas, a valley town without the music legacy of Austin or Arlington. Sons Of Texas solidified in 2013 around a lineup of local all stars. September Mourning has just recorded her debut EP. It tells a story in 6 songs, an epic tale of “heartbreak, loss, pain, joy, love, redemption, but most of all, courage…” Produced by Sahaj Ticotin, September Mourning revives the concept of rock star meets superhero. If Marilyn Manson and X-Men's Storm had a kid, it would be September Mourning, who also cites influences as varied as Paramore, Motionless in White, David Bowie, and My Chemical Romance. “For me, the project is a story, a theatrical art piece,” September explains. “Music is the backbone, but for this to work, it has to include the imagery and the narrative all symbiotically linked into the whole. Music taps into your innermost being. There’s something very intimate and personal about it.” The character of September Mourning is a human-reaper hybrid, who feels the need to give some human souls a second chance, and thus toys with Fate. Rock music should be built to last. Since its genesis, the genre has been all about longevity not a “flavor of the month” or a “flash in the pan.” Whether you go back to the seventies or nineties pillars, the goal was to create something that can be lived with for a lifetime. It still can be that way. Akron, Ohio’s Red Sun Rising—Mike Protich [vocals/guitar], Ryan Williams [guitar], Tyler Valendza [guitar], Ricky Miller [bass/vocals], and Pat Gerasia [drums], proudly carry on that tradition with their full-length debut, Polyester Zeal [Razor & Tie]. “It’s not today’s rock, but it’s a new alternative,” declares singer and guitarist Mike Protich. There is an old saying which claims that great art is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration. The truth though is that exceptional creativity is nurtured by a complexly brewed combination of unswerving dedication and God-given talent. It’s a fact no better illustrated than by the history of Vancouver’s hard-rockers ART OF DYING and their talismanic frontman Jonny Hetherington. What ART OF DYING has been able to create is muscular, vivacious hard-rock bursting with lung-shattering choruses and a sincerity that is impossible to fake. Equally at home with a lead-fingered riff or a deft slow-burner, there is an ease of breadth in AOD’s repertoire that would send most of their peers salad-green with envy. Standing out from the pack isn’t always easy. However, it’s essential for some, and from the beginning, Separations' desire has been to blaze their own trail. The Atlanta quintet strikes a delicate balance between energetic heaviness and melodic hypnosis on its full-length debut album for Imagen Records, 'Dream Eater,' set to be released October 2, 2015, and produced by James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Hands Like Houses, Dashboard Confessional). Dameon Aranda and Gabe Aranda started their first band in the 5th grade. They were inspired by their parents favorite musicians: Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Cat Stevens. On their first release, the self-taught musicians worked with the Grammy nominated production team of Sam Watters and Louis Biancaniello. 2009 saw Aranda’s first charting single, “Still in the Dark,” break into the Top 30 chart for active rock radio across the country. That same year, Dameon Aranda received an unexpected phone call from Kelly Clarkson, asking if she could cover two of Aranda’s songs on her album, All I Ever Wanted-including the high-energy in your face rebel song, “Whyyawannabringmedown.” This song was selected by the WWE as the theme song for the pay per view event, The Bash, and “All I Ever Wanted” became the title track of Clarkson’s album. Soon after, Aranda released their second album, Stop the World, which was produced by Grammy nominated producer, Johnny K, (Disturbed, Staind, Sevendust and Drowning Pool.) They embarked on a nationwide tour with Daughtry and 3 Doors Down. There are elements of “Stop the World” on Aranda’s forthcoming release, Not the Same. Liz can also be seen on the new web series Transform My Transformers, gaining popularity on YouTube. Adding to her acting credits is the 2015 independent film The Bottle produced by award winning Julian Farris Films.
